Does it matter what species I choose?Updated 2 years ago
When choosing a bonsai tree in advance, it is nice to make a choice based on your needs and experience:
1. Experience: even though bonsai care using a number of steps is quite simple, there are some species that are a bit more "beginner-friendly". For instance, if you are a beginner, it is advisable to start with a Ficus or a Ligustrum species because they are easy to care for.
If you still find this exciting or don't have time to take care of your tree from time to time? For that, we have developed the Preserved Collection: bonsai trees that never need water or sun.
2. Indoor vs outdoor: Decide whether you want an indoor or outdoor bonsai, as some trees can adapt to both environments, while others are more specialised. For this, we have different collections.
3. Size and space: Consider the space available for your bonsai tree, as some species can be more compact, while others need more space to grow and flower. It is therefore important to think about where you will place your tree beforehand, as they always need to get some light.
4. Aesthetics: Each species has its own unique appearance, foliage and trunk characteristics, so choose a tree that meets your aesthetic preferences and matches the style of bonsai you want to make.
